What can you see?

A new year, President Obama, financial crisis, collective punishment in Gaza, African 'democracies' struggling, the China Question, a Europe in search of purpose, global warming, stem cells, Capitalism under scrutiny

Those moments .....before an event, before hearing something that you cannot wind back - you cannot un-hear or un-learn. Those moments that you look back upon afterwards and try to remember in what way were you different...
There always seems to be an air of innocence or naïveté surrounding the memory of who you were in those moments before...

Moments ...mere moments, so short a period in time yet so intense, so filled with feelings - curiousity, apprehension, those butterflies storming the walls of your insides, tickling the stuff of your being while life slowly angles upwards and slowly turns on its axis so you find yourself facing a life renewed on different terms and everything you thought you knew is....changed.

Memory lacquers those moments with a clear varnish of slow time like everything happened ...second by second, the look in our eyes, the glance just before seemed a gaze, and the breath you took ....you held...

So quickly those moments will pass by, like features on the bank of a fast flowing river and you'll look back to the memory, so far away it seems now, beyond the twists and the bends of the course that you've travelled now since that day, that time, those moments

Festivities over for another year and time to think about what the next 12 months may bring

highest temperature here (Leipzig) is -10° , lowest -19° !!!! Even 5 minutes outside for a smoke freezes you, pains the fingers, the sky is lovely, very blue and almost cloudless - there's no snow as such - just a dust of ice crystals that floats down over everything, like tiny diamonds sparkling, you can make out each crystal shape when it lands on your sleeve, here a flower shape ; there a starburst and if you look torward the sun you see a mist tunnel of sparkles, quite lovely :) The photo doesn't do it justice at all but maybe it can give you an idea
